Before we go on to our latest entry, I'd like to apologize again for not being active on this blog due to engagements these past few months including attending AniCon to Cosplay Mania, my first Team OKE Open Mic debut, and the second and third Yona Kuromatoki's Interactive Podcast Live at Bataan Anime Convention 2022 and the newly-created ToyFest PH, which led to some unfinished backlogs. Please bear with these and rest assure I'm gonna slowly clean them before the next cons/events.
Anyways, homegrown fandomness this time and on this latest entry, we'll do some commentary about the ever-popular and instantly phenomenal chemistry between actresses Jane De Leon and Janella Salvador aka the new generational Darna and Valentina so far.
So before we get really into the DarLentina pair commentary on this blog, let's take some time about who the heck they are for the curious mad lads out there first shall we?
De Leon is an established newbie in Philippine showbiz industry, but you may remember her as a former member of the group Girltrends and yeah, she played a certain character in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano. Her journey isn't an easy thing though, like many of the celebrities here and abroad, because not only her dad had passed away six years ago due to lung cancer, she also even experienced hardships and bumps along her way to stardom. I mean c'mon, ever notable person's path to recognition always starts from the bottom anyway and this girl isn't the exception. But if you guys really wanna read her wiki and watch her interviews then you'll be surprised, trust me.
Meanwhile, Salvador is coming from one of the very notable showbiz clans that have ups and downs just like the others. She's best fond and notable in TV shows like Be Careful With My Heart, Oh My G!, Born For You and The Killer Bride, and movies like Haunted Mansion, Mano Po 7: Tsinoy, Bloody Crayons and The Heiress. And yes, this gurl can actually sing considering she did renditions of "I Can" (Oh My G!), "How Far I'll Go" (Moana), "Give Thanks" (part of the 2015 Papal Visit of Pope Francis in the PH compilation album) and "Kapag Tumibok ang Puso" as well as other songs on her recording resume like "Mahal Kita Pero" (a 2014 Himig Handog entry) and "Blanko." Plus, she's also a single mom to her only kid following a recent controversial fiasco with her now ex-partner, Filipino-British actor Markus Paterson, more than two months ago. Nonethless, Janella has come a very long way by becoming one of the ever notable Filipino actresses of all time and I'm really glad I respectfully simp for her even since! But hey, you should give a try on her previous works too if you have time!
And we're done with actresses' brief profiles, now it's time for some DarLentina fan commentary proper!
As mentioned on my past posts on some socials that Darna is my all time favorite Filipino superhero while Valentina is my all time favorite homegrown baddie, and still do now I'm already an adult. The casting of De Leon and Salvador isn't only surprising but indeed revolutionary and breakthrough in the Philippine entertaiment industry and in just two and half months (at the time of this blog entry), they already grabbed numerous awards and nominations - both together and individual, plus their passionately dedicated fandom - like the NYLON Manila Awards 2022 Favorite Duo of the Year, the PHTV Choice Awards 2022 Favorite Loveteam of Year (both for JaneNella/DarLentina), Gawad Dangal Filipino Awards 2022 Outstanding Fantaserye Queen of the Year, Inding Indie Excellence Awards 2022 Best Actress and Star Awards 2022 for TV Best Single Performance by an Actress (for De Leon); Kapamilya Stars Poll 2022 TV Actress of the Year, Tag Chicago Awards 2022 Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, and LionHearTV Rawr Awards Best Bida and Kontrabida (for the former and Salvador), and Kapamilya Stars Poll 2022 Strong Fandom of the Year (for the JaneNella fandom). Besides the local engagements, the pair also made their international debut appearance as a duo on the ASAP Natin 'To Las Vegas leg last November 6 alongside other ABS-CBN stars including singers like Martin Nivera, Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Ogie and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, resident PPop idol and MNL48's local cousin groups BINI and BGYO, and artists like Donny Pangilinan, Belle Mariano and AC Bonifacio.
With the second season of the current TV live action version of Darna already on the decks, things are getting more interesting and intense especially more Extras to be faced, more semi-fully annoyed copaganda and hmm yeah, more fruity crumbs for the two leads. So, we ain't gonna spoil these stuff unless you watch the show, sweeties.
But only time will tell that JaneNella can be surely joining the ranks of other onscreen pairs like KathNiel and DonBelle, as well as the queer ones like Thasmin, AvaTrice and KinnPorsche. Always remember that patience is the key in order a ship to be succeeded for real, so a-yup better keep this in mind, guys. Nevertheless, the important thing is these two gals are also our inspirations in life and nobody can take that away.
