Yona Kuromatoki Platform's Statement on Exiting From the 48G Fandom

The Yona Kuromatoki Platform has announced that it'll be no longer associated nor engaged to all 48G content effectively on May 20, 2026 due to personal matters that the head honcho needs to be disclosed, not because of the MNL48 disbandment.

We wish all the success to all the remaining members as well as the former ones. We thank you for the fanchants, fun with the other fans, and covering events surrounding the supergroup for 11 years.

And with that, the head honcho also voluntarily graduates from PAKSA MNL as staff writer after six years of service.

As we close the book of fangirling over the 48G, we'll remember all the moments, both happy and sad, and pass these to the new generation of fans so the legacy will carry on. Until then, see y'all on the flipside and goodbye for now. 💙💗💔

Under Parallel Skies Spoiler-Free Review

A one liner that we can describe the movie: Uuuugh deym feels yow!!! 😭

Feels and jokes aside, the combination of Win Metawin and Janella Salvador is easily knocking on the park with their respective acting skills and flexing some basic words in their respective native languages, and it's just wonderful (pun unintended)!

Besides this, spending a short time with someone they love is a painful to see, so yeah it totally hurts if you ask me. The lesson here that we should make the most of the time by hanging them out while they're still alive because we really don't know about when their time on this planet will be ended, especially to our parents and pets. Also, don't you guys dare wait for them for too long like weeks, months or years coz time is constantly changing as we grow older.

Under Parallel Skies is one of the examples on crossing cultures and uniqueness between the Philippines and Thailand, a rare occurence that has not seen since the Erich Gonzales-Mario Maurer movie Suddenly It's Magic more than a decade ago, moresoever with the rise of another unexpected but very phenomenal duo in the form of Michelle Dee and Anntonia Porsild aka PorDee as well as the love for AKB48 and Japanese idols with MNL48 and BNK48 in the recent years.

Despite the respective sociopolitical issues that the two ASEAN countries face until today, their relationship has singlehandedly gave another new meaning - transcending diversity and sharing cultures with happiness, peace, understanding and love with one another even coming from the other side of the fence.
 

Let Our Precious Moments Lead!! (Yona's Blog's Version)

 

It's time for the newly-minted traditional hybrid year-end special for the third straight time on this blog (the other is the year-end special video proper on my Facebook page), this time for our 2022 one that's Let Our Precious Moments Lead!!

Similar to the 2021 year-end special, Sulong sa Bente Uno! Follow the Bright Summer Light!!, which themed about rewind memories and the importance of the now, this one tackles about achievements and disappointments, giving on what really happen to our world and affect our lives throughout the year.

With that, let's take a look at the responses of some of my colleagues regarding the Year of the Palmtop Tiger as a whole through their own precious moments!

What are the achievements and disappointments you've witnessed or seen for the year (they can be real life and/or pop culture)?

"Our national women's football team qualifying for next year's Women's World Cup, and especially clinching a bronze at the Hanoi SEA Games, as well as winning the first title in the AFF Women's Championship last July.

Although there were ups and downs, particularly despite last May's elections and the heightening Russo-Ukraine war, 2022 had a batch of good things, and need to know that life has a yin yang between both good times and bad times - two halves to the whole."

"As for me, my 2022 moments are the following:

1. Vlogging recovery after more than a year since 2021, when I quit the MNL48 fandom plus the death of my friend who is also a fellow fan that gave me a blow on my life.

2. Disclosure but freedom - what had happened to me last February due to the unprecedented issue gave me lessons. Since I'm a BA History graduate of 2012, this gave me a spark in order to become more serious on information gathering as well as to refute false news in the social media nowadays. The disclosure that made to me by an anime vlogger group (name withheld) also gave me new opportunities to become a freelancer vlogger without any group/s who wants me to be invited to be their member. Well, I will continue to forgive them (and also the ones who made me shamed in the social media) seventy times seven if they could also forgive me too, but if they're not, forgiveness doesn't require reconnection as what TOL told to us in his mental health podcast The Yellow Space. Starting up as a freelancer is not a joke, because people will consider you again as a newbie and you have to build once again the trust that was lost. Yet, I pray to God through Jesus Christ that my vlogging will be guided once again in spite of many challenges I've encountered this year. As what I said many times, magsisimula muli ako... nang mag-isa (I have to start over again... alone)."

Red and Blue Oceans in Modern Society ~Blog Version~

 

If you watch or listen to "NO WAY MAN" by AKB48, AKB48 Team SH and recently, MNL48, then you'll probably know the terms "red ocean" and "blue ocean" in its lyrics, specifically on its bridge part.

Speaking of which, the terms were introduced and coined by Chan Kim and Reneé Mauborgne to denote the market universe into the contested and the non-contested. The red ocean strategy refers to a certain industry or product that is strived to be competitive over its rivals, while the blue ocean strategy refers to a certain industry or product that is strived to be non-competitive and create something that is not seen from any other industry/product.

I can rehash what I said in the latest episode of my podcast show, Yona Kuromatoki's Interactive Podcast, that the red oceans are humanity's all-time adversaries such as toxic culture and calamities, and the blue oceans or its all-time advocacies such as proper representation of persons of color, inclusivity and preservation of the environment. These two can be also considered part of our lives because not all the time are rainbows and sunshines, how to deal and live with them including our own sins, and to overcoming the red ocean through our willpower is really mattered.

Oh, and if you're listened to YKIP, I already shared my red and blue oceans in life, so I'm going to share from two of my fellas in the PPop idol and the geek universes, Nightcat (aka the podcast's two-time guest) and AQL (aka YB's recurring featured person), in this blog just in case you heard theirs as well!

Red Ocean:

College is what I firmly recognize as the most harrowing and treacherous period of my life thus far, a lengthy duration wherein nothing but the vermilion waters of misery surrounded my vessel. During my formative years, always would my immediate relatives pester me to embark on a path towards a medical profession in the hopes of one day overseeing the family business that my Grandfather established two decades succeeding the aftermath of war. Being the obligate individual that I was, I convinced myself that no other course was mine to pursue, that an eventual career as a physician was the sole reserved destiny. For that reason, I enrolled in BS Biology curriculum of the University of Santo Tomas.

Initially, I had little to no difficulty in accomplishing the strenous dealings of the bachelor studies, however everything changed when I stepped onto the Second Year step of the ladder . That was the beginning of my sorrowful streak, where failure was frequent and a wealth of woes was apparent. In the midst of this, before the Third Year, my parents petitioned for me to shift to another degree program, yet my tendency to be obstinate swayed my verdict and thus I declined their appeal citing that should I change course, all the painstaking effort exerted until that moment and every sacrifice made hence the commencement of college would be for naught. That is why I begrudgingly continued on the pernicious journey in spite of all the tormenting pain that riddled the avenue towards graduation.

Blue Ocean:

There shone a lambent light shining against the murky seas along my voyage through tertiary education. Rizal Course, English Literature and Elementary Spanish were three courses present in the academic slate of my Third Year, to me they were a welcome sight, a needed respite in the thick of grueling Scientific subjects the likes of Chemistry and Physics. While engaged in these studies in Humanities, a realization abruptly struck me, one that opened my eyes to a passion that I had long treasured yet reluctantly shunned in favor of the familial duty I forced myself to fulfill.

History has been my favored field of the academe since the earliest of my childhood days. In our ancestral abode was a library that housed an expansive collection of fictional and non-fictional titles. Whenever my parents would proceed to their respective professions, always would they first deliver me to the care of my Grandparents. Most of the hours I would find myself in the company of literature, perusing their contents or listening to my own Grandfather as he rendered a varying array of readings out loud and/or told tales about his exploits during the Second World War.  From then on, my fascination on and keen interest with the chronicles of man blossomed.

Fast forward to the culmination of college's punishing days, I expressed with all candor to my parents as well as to my relatives that no longer would I chart the road to the medical career, but instead enter the Graduate School to be a scholar of History. To my surprise, none of them objected, and as a matter of fact, they even voiced their unadulterated expressions of felicitations and well-wishes.

Now, in the present, the dream that I held dear at heart is what I am now pursuing. Those crimson tides are now behind me, and the blue waters of contentment, overcoming glee and satisfaction are all my eyes see.

Cross the river! You can do it!

MNL48 and SGO48 were stepping up their own game as they both released another iconic 48g song, "RIVER," as the 6th and 3rd singles respectively this year. 

The former was first announced during the Valentines Concert 2020 and supposed to slate in March, but was eventually delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and moreover, Rans Rifol's graduation from the group in June, in which the senbatsu slot she originally reserved had given to Alice De Leon. Meanwhile, the latter was first announced the revealed title of their next single during the Esgeeoh Senbatsu Battle released on their official YouTube channel back in August and similar to the same situation to Emenel, Nguyễn Thị Lệ or Lệ Trang, gave up her slot in the senbatsu and was replaced by Lê Phạm Thuỷ Tiên or Tiên Linh.

Double centered by Gabb Skribikin and Abby Trinidad, the music video of Emenel's "RIVER" was originally slated on November 15, but because of the circumstances surrounded by Typhoon Ulysses that hit the northern portions of the Philippines, it eventually moved to November 27 and subsequently got digital releases on iTunes and Spotify a few hours after its release. The single also marked the first senbatsu participation of Frances Pinlac, Amy Isidto, Gia Muse and Jaydee Garcia, and the comeback single for Ella Amat. The MV was trended on YouTube PH in the top 20 and top 1 in Twitter PH with more than 100,000 tweets, surpassing the 50,000+ tweet mark of the One Love Asia event back in April.

On the other hand, the Esgeeoh version that was centered by its captain Võ Phan Kim Khánh or Kaycee was also originally slated on December 5, but due to the sudden rising of coronavirus cases in Vietnam, it was moved to December 20.

Both versions of RIVER are honestly amazing for me just like the prior ones, and I'm not sick and tired of listening to all of them because that song is all about empowerment and never giving up, especially in these trying times. Can't wait for Team SH, Team TP and CGM to have their own versions of RIVER soon.

Immortal Sugimoto returns

Two years since the last adventure in season two, Golden Kamuy made its return for a third anime season, and all the cast and staff of the show were also returning.

It's been a quite while since we last saw Sugimoto getting beaten up, and he and Asirpa had gone separated ways. Season 3 also introduced us more new characters such as Sofia Goldenhand and Vasily, who are pretty interesting lads too, plus Kiroranke's true nature especially on Tsar Alexander II's assassination along Asirpa's dad Wilk. I'm not gonna spoil much about the finale, but I'm so glad that both Sugimoto and Asirpa reunited and renewed their partnership.

Jo Martin is the Doctor!

Who have we know about someone that has the same case but from a timeline way before the Time War?

Season 12 of the new Doctor Who series marked not only the return of the Master, who is currently played by Sacha Dhawan, Capt Jack Harkness, and notable monsters like the Judoon and the Cybermen, but also introduced another unknown incarnation of the Doctor... Enter the Fugitive Doctor, played by the wonderful Jo Martin - aka the very first Doctor of color!

I was very surprised and amazed about how Jo had done playing the Doctor in her own way and her brief dynamics with Jodie Whittaker was pretty amazing. I'm hoping that she'd be coming back in the show, probably in a future episode or the much-awaited 60th anniversary special.

A starry farewell

On January 26, the finale episode of Star Twinkle PreCure was aired, and we witnessed about the years-after versions of the Star Twinkle Cures and the gang which took 15 years after the final battle and the heroines' emotional parting of ways. We had also seen the usual small screened krus na landas meeting between the outgoing leader Hikaru Hoshina aka Cure Star (voiced by Dempagumi Inc.'s Eimi Naruse) and the then-incoming Nodoka Hanadera aka Cure Grace (voiced by Aoi Yuuki) although the latter only appeared in the former's dream.

I honestly wanna cry with the parting scene but at the same time the adult versions of the heroines are just so beautiful and I noticed an Easter egg which is the dog plush doll resembling Latte as well as the usual baton pass, this time from Star to Grace, is just also wonderful. Speaking of the latter, I can't honestly wait for it, but it's Grace to Summer this time around, in the Healin' Good finale episode this February.

The blooming race against time

The 28th Pretty Cure movie overall and the 13th crossover movie, PreCure Miracle Leap: Minna to no Fushigi na 1 Nichi (A Strange Day with Everyone), focused about the three recent teams - Healin' Good (bar Earth), Star Twinkle and HUGtto - taking up an extraordinary yet bloomed race against time as they encountered the mysterious Miraclun who got chased by the evil Refrain. Therefore, only our heroines could stop that timey-wimey menace with their combined powers... and an unexpected miracle would occur!

The movie was originally slated on March 20, but due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, it was moved to May 16, which was yet again unfortunate to have another delay by the said circumstance until it was finally getting a new release date which was October 31. The theme songs "Circle Love ~Cherry Blossoms~" and "First of May" were performed by Rie Kitagawa and Machico respectively.

To commemorate the movie's rescheduled release, several promotions had been occured such as the usual Yokohama Sky Garden promotional project and the collaboration with Tokyo Girls Collection featuring all 14 most recent Cures, including Cure Earth!

And that concludes the #YK2020Vision special blog part 2! I honestly wanna include some more of the highlighted moments for 2020, but due to circumstances and time constraints I have to shortened them, so my quick apologies for the inconvenience. Anyways, I just wanna greet a safe, prosperous and very hopeful New Year to you all!

Disabilities Month x 48g 15th Anniversary Special: Let's • La • Appreciate Gabb~!

December is the International Month of Disabilities as well as the 15th anniversary of the biggest idol girl group in this planet (and the universe) that is AKB48. To celebrate these two occasions, I made another appreciation thread but for a real life personality this time for this blog and yeah, I already picked Gabb Skribikin aka my current kami oshi from MNL48!

Precisely wise, not only she breaks barriers and stereotypical boundaries in the idol industry - giving that she has a hearing impairment on the right ear - but also smashes every performance for her awesome talents and everyone's hearts for being marupok, plus her evolution from a cutie lad to a pretty ikemen during her more than two-year stint in the 48g! Moreover, she has been part of the group's senbatsu for the singles "Aitakatta Gustong Makita," "Pag-Ibig Fortune Cookie," "Ikaw ang Melody," "High Tension" and "RIVER," whom she also has been the center for the latter two with the current one being double centered alongside Abby Trinidad. 

In addition to those aforementioned, Gabb was also one of the delegates in the first AKB48 Asia Fest which held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2019 together with the other seven of the Emenel members and all the Asian 48 groups as well as making her first acting stint on Ipaglaban Mo last June alongside Sheki Arzaga and the soon-to-be graduated Sela Guia.

With all the mixed stuff happened in the first few days of the RIVER era in Emenel, including the 3rd General Election prelim results, and much like the one with Cure Grace on my Insights From a Goddess (and Mates) section, I interviewed some of the fans who are Gabb oshis through a roundtable Q & A and here are their responses:

Insights From a Goddess: Sweet Talking Sugar by Baby Blue (MNL48)

 

Hello guys and welcome to my newest segment on Yona's Blog called Insights From a Goddess and for its maiden debut, I'm going to do a quick impression about MNL48's first ever subunit, Baby Blue, and their debut single "Sweet Talking Sugar!" But before that, let's have a brief profile on this newest subunit of the 48g shall we?

Officially announced on August 31, 2020, Baby Blue are consist of the top three winners of the Janken Senbatsu, and these are Amy Isidto of Team L, Coleen Trinidad of Team NIV and Jan Elaurza of Team MII, who also serves as its leader. The subunit is also a collaborated project between Emenel's management company, Hallo Hallo Entertainment, and Japanese recording label and store, Tower Records, which is aimed to have a nationwide and worldwide tour for the aforementioned which will be held after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The song "Sweet Talking Sugar" was first released on the EGGS music platform of Tawareco (nickname for Tower Records) on the midnight of September 1, and subsequently expanded into iTunes and Spotify a few days later. Finally its official music video was released first in Japan on September 16, then on the official Emenel YouTube channel a day after, September 17. The said MV was directed by Carlos Francisco Manatad, who is also behind the ones for "Palusot Ko'y Maybe" and "365 Araw ng Eroplanong Papel." Meanwhile, the lyrics was done by Tiny Corpuz, who also did numerous ABS-CBN station IDs. Therefore, STS is the first full English song done by the 48g and also Emenel's first official released original song overall.

Now let's move on to my quick impression on the song and its MV, as excerpted from PAKSA MNL's Thinking Out Loud roundtable segment, where I was one of the writers who gave humble insights regarding the said matter.

The "yay" things: Everything's superb especially the aesthetics and the natural singing voices of the members.

The "nay" things: The blinking lights and flash kind of made my eyes dizzy.

What shocked you: A bit of some Easter eggs of sorts, but what could it that be?

GAsh Day Special Appreciation Thread

 

Hello~! I just wanna greet first a happy birthday to two of the most notable yet special people in the idol community, Ash Garcia and Gabb Skribikin! And because of that, I prepare a special post for them.

Ever since I reignite my love for idol groups specifically the 48g when MNL48 was formed two years ago, I quickly began to support them regardless of generation and this was my proper reintroduction to the aforementioned following a year hiatus. I followed the journey via It's Showtime yet not really much due to other errands, so it was the 1st Senbatsu General Election took that thing to fully support the group. To make the long story short, one of the members that took my attention and it was Ash aka my first kami oshi in Emenel. Not only because she's my mutual mate in real life or we have the same hobbies, but because I've seen her as an idol with infinite potentials. Therefore, she was installed as one of Emenel's original members as well as part of the first gen kami 7 (though a semi-original when she took over from Zen Inot due to the latter's early graduation prior to "Aitakatta - Gustong Makita") and senbatsu. It took only a year before she finally returned to the same lineup through the 2nd SSK this time, and subsequently became part of the 2nd gen senbatsu with "Ikaw ang Melody" being her last single within the group.

Gabb, my original ni-oshi-turned-current kami on the other hand, is credited as planet Earth's first idol with disabilities (IWD) due to being partially deaf as well as also part of the first and second gen senbatsu. Not to mention, her representation has paved way to other people with disabilities who wanted to be part of any field even further, including the idol group industry, and as a PWD myself (visually disabled), I'm really proud to have her to be part of the world's super girl group even up to this day. She also broke barriers when she was choosing to be centered "High Tension" during the "Ikaw ang Melody" handshake event day one on September 21, 2019, which sparked fans with joy. Later, Gabb was picked again this time for the upcoming single "RIVER" which was double centered with Abby Trinidad and yet that caused mixed reactions!

Honestly I had a lot of memorable moments with GAsh whether in events or mall shows, and in or out of Emenel, but there was one thing that totally marked not only me but to the other fans was the "Señorita" performance during the August seitansai last year and EVERYBODY HAD GONE WILD inside the Movie Stars Cafe!!!! And yeah, I was in an intense fangirl mode when these two gave some wholesome fanservice while performing. Damn that was hot indeed! I still couldn't get over it when that song was played on the radio and on YouTube for several times, but anyways it's really there hehe. Also, the handshake events and mall shows were among my best moments from the two which showed about being totally cherished and supported for them.

Again happy birthday to both Ash and Gabb! I wish for many birthdays and blessings to come for them, their friends and their loved ones, always stay classy and kicking, and always stay safe.

MNL48's Generation Centers (Pre-3rd GE Special)

Ang bawat sister group ng 48G o isang idol group na magkatulad nito ay nagtutukoy sa isang miyembro na siyang magiging mukha ng buong grupo at may kaakibat na responsibilidad upang maipapakilala ng mga tao at ng buong daigdig, at siya rin ang front act sa mga galawan sa sayaw ng isang main at/o coupling single. Ang terminolohiya na ito ay tinatawag na center. Subalit kapag dalawang miyembro naman ang napili sa iisang single, ang tawag diyan ay WCenter (pagbigkas ay "double center").

Every sister group of the 48G or idol group that is similar to it refers to a member who is the face of the entire group in order to get known to the people and the world, and is also the front act on the dance moves in a main and/or coupling single. This terminology is called a center. However when two members are chosen for the same single, it is called a WCenter (pronounced as "double center").

There are three ways in order for a member to become a center - the senbatsu sousenkyo or the senbatsu general election which is held every year and wherein the fans can choose their oshi using votes, the management-picked is where the management can be chosen selected members through a close-door audition, and the Janken Tournament is where members will be competed through the rock-paper-scissors game.

Gayumpaman, ang post na ito ay ipopokus sa dalawang center o ang mga mukha ng sister group ng AKB48 sa Pilipinas na MNL48 na parehong iniluklok ng mga tagahanga nitong mga dalawang nagdaang senbatsu general election, at ito'y sina Sheki Arzaga at Aly Padillo.

Therefore, this post will be focused on the two centers o the two faces of the AKB48 sister group in the Philippines that are both installed by the fans these past two senbatsu general elections, and these are Sheki Arzaga and Aly Padillo.

Alam naman natin na si Arzaga ay bukod sa pagiging golden ace at center ng unang tatlong single ng naturang grupo, siya rin ay naging dating defending champion ng Tawag ng Tanghalan sa It's Showtime season one. At para sa kaalaman ng lahat lalong-lalo sa mga bagong tagahanga ng Emenel o MNLoves, siya ang bumubuhat sa parehong promosyon at halos lahat ng puna at batikos sa kanya at kapwang miyembro sa unang taon pa lang ng grupo matapos mabuo sa naturang noontime show.

We all know that Arzaga is aside from being the golden ace and center of the first three singles of the group, she's also the former defending champion of Tawag ng Tanghalan sa It's Showtime season one. And to inform everyone especially the new fans of Emenel or MNLoves, she took the weight on both promotions and almost all the bashing and negative criticisms on her and fellow members on the group's first year following the formation on the said noontime show.

Samantalang si Padillo ay madalas nang naging mahiyain kahit matapos na opisyal nang kabahagi ng Emenel mapa-seitansai man o mall shows. Subalit, binubulaga ang karamihan sa mga tagahanga nang mailuklok siya bilang center sa itinuturing na pinakamalalang SSK sa kasaysayan ng 48G hanggan sa siya ay paunti-unting tinatanggap ng mga miyembro at tagahanga bilang pinakabagong mukha ng grupo. Padillo meanwhile is often shy even after officially joined Emenel, whether in seitansai or mall shows. However, a lot of fans were surprised when she was installed as center in what would be the worst SSK in 48G history until she was slowly accepted by the members and fans as the group's newest face. Since her ascension into the throne as the Second Generation Center, a lot of things had changed, including her improvement in public speaking particularly the use of the Filipino language, her self-confidence and trust, unleashing her inner fierce side, becoming jolly and importunate, and more sociable towards the members and fans.

Sa nalalapit na Third General Election ay muling masusubukan ang katatagan ng bawat miyembro upang maging parte ng ikatatlong henerasyon ng grupo at ito rin ang pagkakataon upang maging karapatdapat sa pinakamataas na token na iyan. Bagama't ay may kani-kanilang manok ang mga tagahanga sa pagka-center para sa susunod na single tulad nina Abby Trinidad at Sela Guia na parehong nasa senbatsu mula "Aitakatta - Gustong Makita," ilan sa mga kilalang miyembro tulad nina Gabb Skribikin, Coleen Trinidad, Belle Delos Reyes at Brei Binuya, o ang mga underdog tulad Jamie Alberto, Cole Somera at Miho Hoshino, ang nasa isipan pa rin ng madlang MNLoves at mga wota kung muling ipahawak kay Arzaga ang trono o mananatili ito kay Padillo.

As the Third General Election nears, every member's stability will be tested once again in order to be part of the group's third generation and this is also the time to be deserved in the highest token. Although the fans have their own bets for the next single's center such as Abby Trinidad and Sela Guia who're both part of the senbatsu since "Aitakatta - Gustong Makita," some notable members like Gabb Skribikin, Coleen Trinidad, Belle Delos Reyes and Brei Binuya, or the underdogs like Jamie Alberto, Cole Somera and Miho Hoshino, whether Arzaga will handle the throne again or it'll be remained by Padillo is still on the minds of the MNLoves and the wota.
